The administration of the College of Accounting - University of Gharyan is pleased to announce to its esteemed readers—from the students, faculty members, and staff, and to all interested parties—the College Guide in its new edition; this publication, which encompasses between its covers a comprehensive summary of data and information, assists the reader in familiarizing themselves with the college's facilities, academic departments, and administrative offices, as well as its adopted study systems for both the bachelor's and postgraduate stages.

The release of this edition comes as a culmination of an academic and educational journey that has spanned approximately thirty-five years of continuous contribution, during which the College of Accounting has offered pioneering educational services and has contributed to providing Libyan state institutions with qualified professionals in the fields of accounting, economics, management, data analysis, finance, and banking. The College has also made significant strides in the fields of authorship, translation, and the issuance of specialized publications and bulletins, contributing to the service of science and knowledge and reinforcing their presence in various fields.

On this occasion, we are delighted to extend our sincere thanks and immense gratitude to everyone who contributed their effort, opinion, and valuable observations, which had a significant impact on the release of this guide in its present form, in service of science and its students. We pray to Allah, the Almighty, that this guide will achieve the hoped-for scholarly contribution, that it will be an aid in fulfilling our mission, and a support for our efforts in achieving the academic and educational goals of the College of Accounting.

Description


The College of Accounting was established by Decree No. 925 of 1985, issued by the former General People's Committee, in implementation of a new educational structure that called for the expansion of specialized higher education, with the aim of providing all Libyans the opportunity to pursue higher education in its various stages and specializations.

The College of Accounting is situated on one of the slopes of the Western Mountain, in a suburb of the city of Gharyan, the largest city in the Western Mountain region. It is located approximately 90 kilometers south of the city of Tripoli and at an elevation of 721 meters above sea level. Its coordinates are 32:10 north latitude and 13:00 east longitude. Its climate is characterized by relative cold in the winter and dry summers despite high temperatures, with an average relative humidity of about 42% (forty-two percent).

The college is situated on an area of approximately 8 hectares and includes an administrative building and a classroom complex that contains a theater, a library, and a computer lab. It also includes a comprehensive lecture hall complex and a separate building for postgraduate studies, which includes classrooms for its students, a language center, and a library equipped with the latest books and publications. The college also provides student housing and a full-service cafeteria.

The college works to develop its academic plans, advance its departments, and add new programs and specializations as needed. In line with recent changes and emerging societal requirements, a Master's degree program was introduced in 1993 in the specializations of: (Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics).

Since its founding and until the Fall 2019-2020 semester, approximately 4,380 (four thousand, two hundred, and eighty) male and female students have graduated from the college in various specializations.

The college includes a number of departments linked to the labor market, including: the Department of Economics, the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Accounting, the Department of Finance and Banking, and the Department of Data Analysis.

The number of faculty members reaches 112, including:

  • (Seven) Professors,
  • (Ten) Associate Professors,
  • (Eighteen) Assistant Professors,
  • (Forty) Lecturers,
  • (Twenty) Assistant Lecturers,

In addition to (seventeen) members on scholarship to pursue their doctoral degrees.

There are also (fourteen) male and female teaching assistants working in the academic departments.

The College of Accounting aspires to be a pioneering and distinguished academic institution, both locally and regionally, in the fields of accounting, economic and administrative sciences, and data analysis. This is to be achieved through providing high-quality education, preparing qualified professionals capable of competing and meeting the needs of the labor market, and actively contributing to community service and supporting sustainable development.



Mission


The mission of the College is to provide distinguished and accredited higher education in accordance with quality and academic accreditation standards. It aims to prepare specialized academic competencies in the fields of economic, administrative, and financial sciences, capable of meeting the requirements of the labor market and keeping pace with its developments. The College also seeks to make an effective contribution to scientific research and development, and to provide specialized consultations in its various fields of expertise. Furthermore, it has a pioneering role in community development and service, in support of comprehensive and sustainable development.

Goals


The process of economic and administrative development requires the preparation of qualified and impactful individuals capable of effectively participating in formulating and implementing development plans with precision and efficiency. From this standpoint, the College of Accounting has been keen to meet the community's need for specialized technical cadres in accounting, economic, administrative, and statistical sciences, thereby contributing to driving the wheel of progress and growth and reinforcing the path of sustainable development.

As the College is considered a primary source of knowledge and a fountain of distinguished human energy, it does not hesitate to perform its fundamental mission in preparing the coming generations of youth to be capable of holding jobs and leadership positions at all levels and in all fields of work, while preserving the value-based heritage, mastering existing sciences, and striving diligently to reach a level of creativity and excellence in various fields.

The College strives diligently to uphold its mission in the most complete manner and with the highest degree of efficiency, to achieve progress and prosperity for society, through the following objectives:


  • To graduate distinguished cadres and competencies, and to prepare specialized experiences capable of competition and innovation, by providing a stimulating educational environment that aligns with the requirements of the labor market and opens horizons of creativity for students.
  • To conduct scientific research and actively participate in updating and developing financial, administrative, economic, and statistical sciences, thereby contributing to societal development and solving its problems in scientific and practical ways.
  • To develop the capabilities of faculty members and enhance their academic and research skills, to ensure a tangible impact on the development of education and scientific research, and to invest them in the service of the national economy.
  • To encourage diverse university activities—cultural, social, artistic, and sports—to refine the student's personality, develop their talents, and instill the values of self-reliance and responsibility.
